To be unbound is to be unburdened by the elements of life that contain us. Memory, time, and history all shape how we move through the world and understand ourselves.
Printmaking offers a space where time can become fluid, and at times, completely suspended. There is a particular pause when a print passes through a press. In the brief moment before the paper separates from the matrix, there is a holding of breath.
In this moment of separation, the space between objects becomes charged. Each is a half of a whole. Connected deeply, but pulled apart forever. This space between things can hold memory and care.
Unbound brings together artists Jewel Shaw, Laura Grier, Matthew James Weigel, and Stan Bevan, whose practices explore moments where time seems to slow. Their works consider creation stories, relationships with walking and the land, the care we give to our bodies and the bodies of others, and the memories of our past that inform our present beings.
Through a range of printmaking methods and approaches, the artists explore how knowledge, memory, and experience can move between states. Together, the works consider what happens in moments of transfer and change.

ACCESSIBILITY
The closing reception will take place in Ociciwan's Main Gallery. We will be serving tea, coffee, refreshments and snacks. This is a free event, including refreshments. Children are welcome!
Ociciwan Contemporary Art Centre is equipped with a lift to reach upper floors and the lower floor gallery. Single stall and wide stall washrooms are available on every floor. Washrooms are gender neutral. Change tables are available in wide stall washrooms. The main door to the gallery space is equipped with an automatic door opener.
ETS stops at 96 Street and Jasper Avenue are a 1-minute walk from the gallery (Routes 2, 5, 111, 131). The stop at 95 Street and Jasper Avenue is a 5-minute walk (Route 1). Central Station is approximately a 10-minute walk (Routes 8, 130X, 150X, 201).
LRT Valley Line: Quarters Station is a 1-minute walk from the gallery.
